How to get a Finland Work Visa?
If you want to work in Finland, the first thing you need is to check whether you need a work visa for Finland or not. Usually, it depends on your nationality.
1. For EU/EEA/Swiss nationals
If you are from any EU/EEA/Swiss state, you do not need a work visa or a residence permit to work in Finland. You only need a valid passport to enter the country, and you are allowed to work in Finland for up to 90-days without need to apply for a work visa or a residence permit. But if you want to stay in Finland for more than 90-days, you need to register your right of residence prior to the end of these 90-days.
2. For Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals
If you are not from any EU/EEA/Swiss state, you need to apply for a Finland Work Visa. It will allow you to enter the country for employment purposes. Before applying for a work visa, you must have a job in Finland.
Before your arrival to Finland, you need to apply for a residence permit online through the Enter Finland Service. In case, you are not eligible to apply online, and you can print the application form and bring it to the closest Finland embassy or diplomatic mission along with the necessary documents. You will be informed through the mail whether your request is accepted or not.
Once your request for a residence permit is approved, you will receive a residence permit card from the Finland embassy. It is valid for up to one year and can be renewed at local police authorities in Finland.
Note that: You are eligible to apply for permanent residence after five years of living and working in Finland.
Categories of Finland Work Visa
There are three following categories of Finland Work Visa.
1. Business visa
It will allow you to enter the state to attend business conferences and seminars for a stay of around 90 days. It does not allow you to carry out any employment activity.
2. Residence permit for self-employment
This type of permit is for the private entrepreneurs, members of a cooperative and partners of a company in Finland. To get this permit, you need to register your business with the Trade Register at the National Board of Patents and Registration.
3. Residence permit for employed people
It is the most common type of permit, and all the foreign employees need this permit to work in Finland. There are three following types within this category.
- Continuous (A)
- Temporary (B)
- Permanent (P)
Initially, you should apply for a temporary permit.
