How to get a Latvia Study Visa?
Before applying for a study visa, you have to check whether you need a visa or not. As Latvia is one of the Schengen Area countries, it allows nationals of various countries to enter the state without obtaining an additional visa. It usually depends on your nationality, whether you need it or not.
1. For EU/EEA/Swiss nationals:
If you are from any EU/EEA/Swiss, you do not need a visa to study in Latvia. You are allowed to enter the stay without a visa for up to 90-days within six months. If your course of study is more prolonged than 90-days, you need to apply at the OCMA (Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs) in Riga.
2. For Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals:
If you are from any Non-EU/EEA/Swiss country, you need to apply for a study visa to study in Latvia. All you need to apply for a Latvia Study Visa (Long-Term Visa).It is a type of long-stay visa for study purposes and allows you to stay in the state for more than 90-days.
But if your course of study is not longer than 90-days, you can also apply for a Short-Stay Visa. It will allow you to stay in the state for up to 90-days within six months.
After you arrive in Latvia, you need to apply for a residence permit; it will allow you to remain in the state as long as your course of study. It will take several weeks to get a residence permit. You need to have the following documents to obtain a residence permit.
- Travel document
- Application form which can claim at (OCMA)
- Confirmation letter from Latvian institution
- Health insurance
- Proof that shows sufficient funds
Keep in mind: You only apply for a Latvia Study Visa when you have an acceptance letter from the Latvian Institute.
